Back when Dad was still with us, and he went down to the farm on a regular basis, I always looked forward to going down with him. A lot of times it was just to check something, many times it was to mow grass or do some repair work on the old red shed. it did not matter what we were doing, Dad loved that farm. He loved being there, I am sure a lot of memories of when he was a little boy on the farm, visiting his aunt and uncle, were floating around in his head. You could just look at him, and see how much he loved that place.

One of the family highlights of the year is to celebrate the 4th of July at the farm. We would go down, set up some tents to use as covers for the food, and we would have fried chicken, and other dishes that we would all bring. Dad would often get the old International Model H out of the shed, and any of the little kids that wanted to go for a ride, he would take them. He was like a little kid at Christmas, a big smile on his face that would light a night sky. It was his Christmas, usually all of the family was there, together, and the kids could run and explore to their hearts content. I think, once again, that it brought back treasured memories from his childhood.

When Dad passed, the farm became a sort of mecca for me. A place for me to escape the craziness of the world around us, a place where I can go to relax, unwind, or just sweat my rear end off, mowing the yard, or trimming in  the ditches. It is one of the best ways I know of to spend an afternoon. No matter what kind of day or week it has been, a few hours at the farm, and all of my anxieties disappear.

Today, I try to find excuses to go down to the farm. When I go, I usually bring my camera, it does not matter the season, there is always something beautiful that deserves some time in front of the lens. This gallery is made up of images taken at the farm, across all of the seasons. I think you can see what it is that makes this place magical. Enjoy your visit and please, let me know what you think, and if you find a particular image that you like, there are many different ways that you can own your favorite to display in your home or office.

Thanks for visiting, and please come back often
